As the name suggests, the premises of this neighbourhood Indian restaurant is a converted bank, although this building was clearly not your usual modern high street branch. The restaurant has an impressive double-fronted exterior and beautiful black and white gables.
Inside, all signs of the building's previous occupant are gone - in fact, what was once the bank manager’s office has now become the restaurant's kitchen! This conversion is a real success and the end result is a light and airy two-floor restaurant, which is beautifully well-proportioned. It is decorated in a contemporary style, with splashes of bold colours in the seating and a glass sided staircase that leads up to the second floor - mostly used for parties.
The success of this restaurant extends into the menu. It is a British Curry Award winner and has also won an award of excellence from the AAA Guide. Understandable really, when you taste what's on offer - traditional sub-continental cuisine cooked by experienced chefs using only the finest ingredients. The extensive menu has captured the variety of flavours and spices native to this vast continent. Closer to home, all the chicken on the menu is 100% grain-fed.
The choice of liquid accompaniment is as broad as the menu. There is a fantastic selection of wines and champagnes, or if you prefer a more traditional drink with your curry, then choose an Indian beer, finally why not top it all with a digestif after your meal?
Not surprisingly, this restaurant is very popular with the locals, including a celebrity or two. Lloyds is an Indian restaurant you can bank on.
