The sixteenth century Bear Inn, which was used by Cromwell’s troops in the Civil War, is situated by the rural village of Berkswell, which takes its name from the sixteen-foot deep, stone-walled water well just outside the churchyard of the twelfth century parish church.
The Bear Inn, which used to be known as The Bear and Ragged Staff, is part of the Chef and Brewer chain which itself is owned by Punch Pub company, the largest pub and bar operator in the UK.
The cuisine is traditional pub food brought up to date and is prepared to order from the freshest ingredients. There are lunchtime snacks as well as more substantial dishes on offer and a regularly changing specials board.
Children are welcome if dining and there’s a nice garden for summer eating. The Cromwell room is also available for hire upstairs for larger parties or functions.
