Loch Fyne, on the west coast of Scotland, formed when the glaciers retreated some 10,000 years ago. It is the longest and deepest of the many sea lochs in Scotland and gives its name to a group of businesses which have grown out of the oyster fishery, including event catering, fishmongers and restaurants.
The Bath restaurant is housed in a converted Grade II listed building, with high ceilings, lots of natural light and enjoys an excellent central location in the city. Loch Fyne, Bath now has a fabulous courtyard for secluded al fresco dining.
The group operates on the basis of using only sustainable species from trusted partner growers and suppliers, farmed to the very highest quality and environmental standards (grit-free mussels, organically farmed salmon and nothing from deep-sea trawlers). Such a self-supply strategy maintains standards and keeps prices down.
Starters are priced from £4.50 and include Thai fishcakes, classic prawn cocktail and a smoked salmon mezze. Mains feature classic fish and shellfish dishes – hearty fish pie, wonderful white fish – whole and fillets - and Loch Fyne’s famous fish, chips and mushy peas. Complement your food with wines from the extensive list and round your meal off with delicious homemade desserts.
The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and, although Loch Fyne is a chain, individual restaurants do have the scope to create their own personalities, and the longevity of the group is testament to the success it has had in applying principles of sustainability to itself as well as to its supplies.
