Sally Lunn's is one of Bath's oldest houses, c.1482, and comprises a museum (open during the day) and café/restaurant serving morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and candlelit dinner. The museum is free for visitors who also take refreshment.
Sally Lunn’s is famous for baking the original Bath bun - the Sally Lunn Bun. Which is less of a bun and more of a rich bread. The buns are delicious with both sweet and savoury accompaniments.
The evening menu at Sally Lunn’s offers dishes served in the “trencher” tradition, i.e. served on a slice of Sally Lunn Bun instead of simply a plate (plates only came in to use around 1500), the bun / bread absorbing the flavours of the food and being eaten as part of the meal.
