Although the exotic, long-running show Oh! Calcutta! took inspiration from a French painting ""O quel cul t'as!”, its namesake restaurant confines itself firmly to sub-continental sauciness.
The informal, canteen-style, dining area is decorated in contemporary style and provides the relaxed setting for a menu of traditional and innovative dishes, particularly fish dishes, including plenty of changing chef's specials, and options for vegetarians, all very reasonably priced and sourced from fresh ingredients. Dishes might include bindya chinrgi (tiger prawns spiced & lightly fried in garlic, chilli & coriander served with a sweet chilli sauce); Goan fish curry (tender red snapper in spiced sauce with coconut cream and fresh lime); and jheenga bangalore (king prawns cooked with honey, lime and coriander).
Meanwhile, a big screen silently projects Indian classic films, not including, for the moment anyway, the Bollywood version of Oh! Bristol!
