The recently opened Italian Restaurant Al Forno on Osborne Road, Southsea is causing quite a stir with its emphasis on fresh produce and family style dining.
Fresh pasta made on the premises daily is the highlight and you can often see the chefs in the open plan kitchen tossing the home-made pizza dough.
However it’s not only the stone baked pizzas and fresh pasta that warrants a try but also the great selection of risottos and cloud-like gnocci dishes. Try the oak-roasted salmon and leek gnocchi, tossed in a creamy tomato sauce with a hint of chilli, or opt for the lemon chicken risotto – tender pieces of fresh chicken served in a creamy tomato sauce served with white wine and lemon infused oil. Fresh Seafood dishes are available on the weekend alongside other chef inspired specials. Vegetarians are very well catered for and most pasta dishes can be made gluten free on request.
Desserts are all handmade and include a fabulous tiramisu and home-made chocolate brownies. Fantastic alone, they also go incredibly well with one of Al Forno’s traditional Italian coffees.
True to Italian dining, the pace is relaxed and the atmosphere homely and family-friendly. Al Forno is wonderful for a hassle-free meal and caters for all types of diners - from business people and shoppers to those seeking a special romantic supper.
